Stand Up for Democracy:

 Volunteer to Get Out the Vote and Mobilize Women Voters!

 

 

With tight elections, every vote counts, and it's crucial that all eligible voters cast their ballots. Our efforts can help ensure a fair and representative outcome. Research has shown that it takes multiple “direct contacts” to persuade voters to cast their ballots.  League volunteers and partners are contacting voters directly through texts, phone calls, and postcards as often as possible.

We need our members to get us to the finish line by urging women across the state to vote and get us to that final countdown to defend democracy. Our GOTV efforts include texting, phone banking, and postcard writing.  You can volunteer for any option that works for you. 

Most of our GOTV work is done through the League In Action (LIA) app. We urge you to download and join the League in Action (LIA) for LWV Arizona. You will receive notifications of actions you can take.


Phone Banking


Phone banking is in progress. We have phone banking campaigns to reach women voters 18-65.  We plan to reach over half a million women voters in Arizona. Your phone calls will urge women voters who have not voted to vote early, skip the lines, and vote the full ballot.  Phone banking is easy.  It's all hands on the phone to get every woman to vote.

Who are we trying to reach:

  • Women between the ages of 18-65

  • Immediate phone bank activity:

    • Those who have requested a mail ballot will be given information regarding dropping off the ballot and mailing it early.

    • Those who have not requested the early ballot will be urged to skip the lines and vote early at early vote centers.

  • Week before election:

    • Ballot chasing! Remind mail ballot voters to turn in the ballot asap.


How it works

What you will need:

  • Phone:

    You can use your own personal phone, or you can use Google Voice instead of your personal phone.  A short video with instructions will help you set up your Google Voice number quickly. 

  • URL’s (links) for the Phone Banks:

    • You can access the Virtual Phone Bank links either through the League in Action platform or by logging into the GOTV Phone Banking events on the LWVAZ website (www.lwvaz.org) via your member login.

    • If you have never participated in a phone bank through the NGP VAN (Voter Access Network database of publicly available voter information), you will be prompted to set up an account, after which you can make phone calls. 

  • Make as many calls as you can. 


How to  volunteer

  • Our primary platform for our GOTV work is the League in Action (LIA) app.  If you have already signed up, please watch for notifications on the LIA app for phone banking actions.

  • If you need to sign up for LIA, use your phone to scan the QR Code or click this link: https://vc0.co/OZ5  

  • If you prefer not to join LIA, you can still sign up for phone banking events at www.lwvaz.org. Simply log in using your local League member credentials. You'll find a list of phone banking events on the home page (visible only to members). Click on the event to find all the necessary Virtual Phone Bank URLs and instructions there.

Training and support:

Postcards


We need volunteers in all local leagues to complete and mail 55,000 postcards ASAP to our targeted audience: low-propensity women voters between the ages of 30 and 50 who did not vote in the last two election cycles.


How it works:

October 18-20 – The 5 Arizona local leagues will receive postcards in bundles of 100, postage stamps, and instructions for the volunteers. Volunteers will apply the mailing labels and stamps and an optional handwritten message. This is a great opportunity to gather friends and family for a meaningful, democracy-saving activity! Postcards must go out as soon as you get them.


How to  volunteer

Contact your local league to volunteer and pick up the postcards and related materials. Reminder the postcards will be available after October 18.  Local league contacts are shown below:

Texting


 

Texting voters is in progress. We have texting campaigns every week to reach women voters 18-65.  Your texts urge women voters who have not voted to vote early,  skip the lines, and vote the full ballot.  Texting is easy and takes very little of your time.  Please join this effort.

How it works:

  • You will not be using your personal phone number. 

  • It's easy and quick to send thousands of texts using the League In Action app (LIA)
