Join the League of Women Voters of Arizona and ACLU Arizona Executive Director Victoria López and Policy Strategist Katelynn Contreras for a dynamic, action-focused discussion on Legal pathways for defending democracy. Learn about the ACLU’s strategies and discover concrete steps you can take to support us in this vital work.

Our speakers will focus on these key issues:

Rule of Law, Judicial Integrity, and Access to Justice will cover topics such as compliance with court orders, the impact of targeting major law firms on plaintiffs' representation, due process in deportation cases, and the safeguarding of constitutional rights like free speech and assembly.

Voter Engagement and Public Participation will highlight education on lawsuits, federal versus state jurisdiction, and how public involvement can shape legal outcomes. It will also track significant cases and their implications.
Historical Accuracy, Representation and Government Transparency will address efforts to prevent the erasure of marginalized communities from history, monitor changes to government websites, and ensure public access to essential information.

LWVUS embarks on study of Federal Judiciary
April 4 and April 6th
LWVAZ Hosts consensus discussion to provide input to the LWVUS Federal Judiciary Study team.

At the LWVUS 2024 Convention, delegates voted to proceed with a fast-tracked study on the federal judiciary, with a final position to be presented at the LWVUS 2025 Council in June.

To facilitate consensus, Leagues have been asked to host meetings between February and April 14th, where members can discuss the study and submit one consensus questionnaire per local League. We strongly encourage local Leagues to hold their own meetings.

Additionally, the state is coordinating virtual, cross-League discussions. These sessions will begin with a brief overview, followed by small group discussions aimed at reaching a consensus. The meetings will be moderated, and we will summarize the results from each meeting. The aggregated responses will form the state’s official response to the national study committee.

Signup today to learn about the study and join the consensus discussions.

Friday - April 4,  12:00 - 2 p.m.  April 4, Registration

Sunday - April 6, 2:00- 4:00  p.m. April 6, Registration

Membership Survey: Review of LWVAZ 2023-2025 Public Policy Positions

We need your input to shape the LWVAZ’s Public Policy Positions for 2025-2027 at the 2025 LWVAZ Biennial Convention. During each  LWVAZ Biennial Convention, delegates adopt the positions that will direct us for the next two-year cycle.
The League of Women Voters of Arizona's public policy positions authorize our advocacy and guide our actions on various issues.  Public policy positions reflect ideals embedded in the mission and goals of both the Arizona and National Leagues. Since times change, we always consider revisions to current policies and requests for new positions.
To assist delegates at the convention in deciding whether to retain or revise a position, please take a moment to answer all the questions LWVAZ Public Policy Positions Survey.
For reference, you can review our current positions here: LWVAZ Public Policy Positions 2023-2025 Adopted 2023, amended 2024.docx.pdf

Steps:
1. Review each public policy position and indicate whether it should be retained or revised.
2. Suggest new positions. A public policy position is adopted only after a review committee has thoroughly examined an issue, informed other League members about it, and received approval of their proposed draft from delegates representing the membership as a whole.
Your feedback is crucial for maintaining the vitality and relevance of our public policies. Please complete this survey by March 31st, 2025.
Thank you for your time and contributions to this vital endeavor. Please direct questions to Kathleen Edelman, LWVAZ Public Policy Committee Chair lwvazadvocacy@gmail.com.
