Federated Model

LWV operates at three levels: LOCAL, STATE and NATIONAL.

The federated structure of LWV comprises a national League and affiliated state and local Leagues that are separately incorporated. The local and state Leagues work in cooperation with the national League under rules incorporated into their bylaws.

Those who join the League become members of their local League, their state League, and the national League.  When you join the League, your membership dues goes directly to the League's work to protect and defend our democracy on the issues important to sustaining it.

Membership Benefits:

  • Membership magnifies your impact on defending democracy, protecting the freedom to vote, civil liberties, and social and environmental justice.

  • Your membership provides opportunities to make new friends and to get involved by volunteering at events or working on different League committees.

  • Monthly newsletters from the State Advocacy Committee or your local league keep you informed and further educated on important local, state, and national issues.

  • LWVAZ is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy.
