Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.

Voting Rights

The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy. In a democratic government, every person is considered equal and is empowered to participate in their government and speak on the issues that impact their daily lives. When we vote, we express our values by electing representatives who share similar concerns about issues like health care, climate change, criminal justice, taxes, and much more.

Democracy works best when all eligible voters participate. However, false claims of “voter fraud” have been used to unlawfully purge eligible voters from the rolls. These claims are designed to suppress certain populations from participating in our elections. Politicians should be encouraging all eligible voters instead of closing polling places, reducing early voting, and passing onerous voter ID laws.

The League is dedicated to ensuring that all eligible voters have the opportunity and the information to exercise their right to vote, including first-time voters, new citizens, communities of color, the elderly, and low-in income Americans.

Why Your Vote Matters

For more than 100 years, the League has fought to protect the rights of voters and expand access for those who’ve been left out of our democratic process. We do so through a combination of advocacy, litigation, education, partnerships, and grassroots efforts.

Voting is how you can influence the issues that impact your life:

Women's Rights- from equal pay to reproductive freedom
Climate Change- management of natural resources (land, water, energy)
Education- funding, quality, accessibility and equity
Gun Safety- limiting easy access to handguns and assault weapons
